Capturing a vague sense of impending doom as it was recorded live at Bright Black Studio in early March 2020, "Nobody Lived" began as rehearsals for a live set that Night Mode never performed due to a global pandemic.

The starting point for the session was this email from Howie to Drew:

"like 1:00 sunday? my idea for a piece is building up a volca bass sequence in the C dim scale (or any diminished scale, but C is easyish) and tearing it back down to noise/sub freqs. then i was thinking the paraphonic ms20 patch as an accompaniment to something of yours."

From there, the three movements were built up through improvisation and iteration. What you hear is a take from the middle of the day; while later takes were more technically clean and articulate, this one goes on the greatest journey from start to finish while re-creating the atmosphere of the recording session.
